Forever Wild: celebrating america’s wilderness is a one-hour documentary that portrays the splendor and tremendous values of one of America’s greatest treasures… wilderness. Forever Wild captures the glory of undeveloped, wild places through stunning images and the passionate tales of America’s modern wilderness heroes — ordinary citizens who dedicate themselves to preserving a legacy of wilderness for all of us to enjoy, forever. A 3rd generation logger and a school teacher in New Hampshire; a nurse in California; three busy mothers in Colorado... these volunteers, and so many more, have used their voices and America’s democracy to protect the mountains, forests, deserts, prairies, and rivers they love most.
Americans have celebrated and defended the values of wilderness for a century. Since the passage of the Wilderness Act 45 years ago, nearly 110 million acres of America’s most pristine lands and waterways have been protected by law. These undisturbed public lands are the last reservoirs of fresh water, clean air, healthy wildlife habitat and quiet recreation. Today, energy development, sprawl, timber harvesting, and motorized recreation threaten to overrun many of America’s unprotected wild places. Forever Wild renews our understanding of the majesty and ecological necessity of wild lands. In the decades ahead, the vast open spaces of wilderness will be even more precious for wildlife and humans in a crowded and changing world.
Forever Wild: celebrating america’s wilderness is hosted by Robert Redford, and features the prose of Terry Tempest Williams, read by the author.
