ABOUT US
Over 25 Years of the Video Project

The Video Project was founded in 1983 by Oscar winning documentary filmmaker Vivienne Verdon-Roe (Women for America, For the World) and Oscar nominee Ian Thiermann (In the Nuclear Shadow). In 2000, the Video Project was acquired by Act Now Productions, a progressive media production company co-founded by former Sierra Club President, Adam Werbach. In 2007, The Video Project was acquired by San Mateo-based media company Specialty Studios, helmed by Steve Michelson, a fixture of film production and distribution in Northern California for over 30 years, and a pioneer in DVD authoring and technology.

OUR MISSION
Our mission at the Video Project is to provide the very best in educational media and documentary programming to schools, libraries, and educators worldwide.

OUR PROGRAMMING
The Video Project has programs for all ages, including Oscar and Emmy award-winners from over 200 independent filmmakers worldwide. We are the exclusive or primary distributor for most of the programs in our collection, as well as a major distributor for the productions of national environmental organizations such as the National Wildlife Federation, Marine Mammal Fund, League of Women Voters, Union of Concerned Scientist and Zero Population Growth, among others.

We distribute over ten thousand programs every year to a diverse and growing network that includes thousands of schools, colleges, community groups, public libraries, churches, businesses, government agencies and individuals.
